Hockey Day in Canada sees the Tyke Muskies Win Gold
The Lindsay Tyke Rep Muskies brought back another tournament championship trophy. The "Hockey day in Canada" under the locks tournament was held on Feb.9th and 10th, in Peterborough. The boys were itching to hit the ice after a long break in the schedule, and hit it they did, running roughshod over their opponents and winning four straight to bring their undefeated streak to 17 games.Wow.
With Hockey Day in Canada festivities going on all day Sat. it was a carnival type atmosphere. One young Muskie stated "it's like a hockey fair". Ron McLean was broadcasting from the canal, the Stanley Cup was on hand for pictures and many NHL alumni made appearances, Wendel Clark , Lanny McDonald and Darcy Tucker to name a few. Spectators lined the canal to watch five rinks full of kids, play outdoor hockey in the sun. Canadiana at its best.
The Lindsay Muskies played 2 games on the 9th, beating Hespler 6-3 in the early afternoon, and defeating Peterborough 8-0 under the spotlights that night.
The Lindsay Tyke Muskies stood first in their pool, they would face Thornhill at the cross over. Running away with a 15-0 win assured them a spot in the final where the met Hespeler once again. The Championship Game was played at 3:50 in the afternoon and would see Lindsay put down a rough playing Hespeler squad, Choosing to stick to their game and get retribution on the scoreboard, to the tune of a 7-0 win. The gold was everywhere as the Boys received the large tournament cup, A take home cup for their home rink and individual trophys.
That day in the city of Peterborough, all the hockey world knew,
12 Kids from Lindsay went and won it all, and made memories to last a life time,
on hockey day in Canada.
