Tri-County Minor Tyke Champions!
We defeated the Sturgeon Lake Thunder tonight in the deciding game of our best-of-five series to win the Tri-County Minor Tyke Championship.

We got off to a great start when Griffin put us ahead early in the game.  He went to front of the net, screened their goalie, and deflected Josh G.'s shot into the net.  The lead stood for a while thanks to excellent goaltending from Owen V., who made some incredible saves, and strong defence from Caleb, Connor, and Owen D., who did a great job of chasing the puck into our zone and playing it back up the boards.  The Thunder managed to even things up near the end of the period, so we headed to the the first intermission after a hectic first period tied at 1-1.

The game opened up a little bit in the second period.  Sam put us in front with a backhand goal, but the Thunder were able to tie things up soon after.  It was an end-to-end game for a little while, with both teams showcasing their speed and physical play.  Josh D. and Sean both worked hard to dig for pucks along the boards.  Cowyn and Ryerson used their skating ability to lead the rush out of our zone.  Aidan and Quinn were fearless as they bullied a few much larger Sturgeon Lake players in front of our net.  Seth finally broke the deadlock when he beat the Thunder goalie to put us up 3-2 heading into the second intermission.

Both sets of fans were on the edge of their seats during the thrilling final period.  Owen V. continued to stand tall in the net as we held on to our slim one-goal lead.  Jarrett and Maguire were flying around the ice, using their speed to get the pucks out of our zone and force the Thunder into turnovers.  After playing great team defence to preserve our lead, we finally got the insurance goal that we needed.  Seth scored his 50th goal of the season to give us a little bit of breathing room.  Unfortunately, the game was not quite over yet.  With both teams tiring, we took a penalty and the Thunder pulled their goalie to give them a 6-on-4 man advantage.  Our team held on, and Seth iced the game by completing his hat-trick in the last minute.

After an unbelievable playoff run, including victories in three must-win games, we lifted (and then broke) the Tri-County Minor Tyke Championship trophy!  Congratulations to all of the players and the coaches!  You all did an amazing job!
