The Tyke Black Muskies have had a very busy first month of the season. In addition to several practices, we have already played four league games and three exhibition games. Although we have lost more games than we have won, the players are showing a much improved understanding of positions, they have a better grasp of rules like offside, their skating and skills are improving each week, and they are having a lot of fun with their new teammates!
There have been many highlights on the ice so far, including...
- The team recording our first win against Sturgeon
- Tyler scoring our first goal of the season
- Keegan picking up his first shutout
- Calenn leading the team with two assists
- Alex scoring his first goal of the year
- Nathan and Tyler both scoring twice in one game
- Jack, Branndon, and Noah each getting their first assist of the season
- Our defence showing great improvement between our two games against Haliburton (allowing five fewer goals the second game)
- Our forwards developing a much better understanding of their positions at both ends of the ice
There have also been a few highlights off the ice in the past month, including...
- excellent participation in our team fundraising activities
- tremendous support from our sponsors
- the players' excitement when they received their personalized Muskie ballcaps
Although we are only a month into the season, it promises to be a busy month ahead. Over the next four weeks we have 6 games, 5 practices (including a special surprise on December 3rd), 2 tag days (November 8 and 29), and a team party (November 15 after our game). We are also hoping to confirm our participation in the Woodville tournament on December 6th.
Thanks to the coaching staff, trainers, manager, parent volunteers, and sponsors for helping our kids to have such a great start to the hockey season. It looks like this will be a fun and exciting winter of hockey for the Tyke Black Muskies!
