Huge Win against Mariposa
Team Spirit and hard work leads to a huge win
The team took part on Tag Day on Saturday to raise money for tournaments.
The kids were able to get to know each other a little better after spending two hours in one location together and they seemed to enjoy and even bond.
When Sunday morning came and they entered the dressing room..it was a different team..everyone was talking to each other and everyone had a smile on their faces.
Coach Joey went around the room and asked every boy what their job on the team was and asked the coaches the same question....Tag day was a TEAM effort and brought the focus back on the concept of TEAM...Joey added to this with his question and the kids started to understand that everyone had a different job on the team that would help the team win.
Every single boy showed up for this game...it was the best effort to date with all pitching in where needed.
Owen V started our scoring by taking the puck down the right wing and then cutting to the net and roofing it over the goalies right shoulder from a sharp angle.
Caleb A then put the puck at the net from the point which was redirected by Connor S for our second goal of the game.
Mariposa made it seem close with a goal late in the 2nd..however, our team was in control of this game from start to finish and they didnt give up.
In the third period Owen V took a pass up the boards and raced down the ice beating two defence to get a shot on the net which came off the goalie..hit Owens skate and went in. Our first Shorthanded goal of the year!!!!!!
Our fourth goal came with Josh G firing it up the boards and out of our zone; Ian K raced to the puck in the right corner and Owen D distracted the goalie by parking himself in front of the net. Ian fired it from a sharp angle and beat the goalie on his blocker side.
There were so many good points in this game that it is difficult to name them all. As stated earlier...eery boy came out of that dressing room and was ready to skate hard and to win as a team.
Josh D made a huge defensive play that could have resulted in a breakaway.
Connor S noticed one of our defencemen had rushed on a play and stayed back and blocked a shot.
Jarrett B was HUGE on the blueline and used his "crazy stick" move to take the opposing players off the puck.
Sammy T passed a puck out of the corner to Owen D for a fantastic one timer that the goalie somehow managed to save.
Maguire D was chasing down players and pressuring them to give up the puck which gave us back control on numerous occasions.
Aiden G was strong in our end and covered the front of the net and dug in the corners and did his job of keeping the puck out of our net
Ethan M continued his two way play and had a couple of good opportunities in Mariposas end as well as getting back to check when they came the other way.
This game was a pleasure to watch and the boys ALL skated hard and truly wanted to win for each other.
They passed the puck more; they played their positions much better; they cleared the puck out of our zone with more ease and in part to listening to Coach Chris's new strategy of looking for the open winger away from the boards.
They lifted the opponents sticks to take them off the puck more in this game than the entire year combined with a demonstration in the dressing room before the game by our Manager.
The coaching staff was all very proud of the effort in a much needed win
