Game 22 vs Sturgeon
Saturday (early) morning marked the second meeting,(in the 2nd half of the season),between the Sturgeon Thunder and the Lindsay Teal Muskies.
The game took place in Lindsay on Pad 2.
Pad 2 has not been a friendly environment for our Muskies so far this season.  We have been 0-3 playing on that side of the Rec Centre....losing to Mariposa in the 1st game of the season...Durham in the 2nd last game of the first half and Manvers in our first exhibition with them.  Our coaching staff and most of the team was aware of this and they were prepared to buck the trend against Sturgeon.

The puck dropped at 10:15 and our Muskies took control of the game from that point on.
With just a minute played in the 1st period; Kiera W. took the puck from our own end and began to deke and dazzle the entire Thunder forwards and defence.
She had one defenceman to beat..she gave him a small head fake and blew by him on the outside, and found herself one on one with the Sturgeon goalie.
She made no mistake and fired the puck past the Thunder netminder who I am sure was in shock from the amazing show Kiera had just put on.  1-0 Muskies!!!!!
14 seconds later; Jackson Q. would get the puck just above the left circle in Sturgeons end....he fired a wrist shot that went over the goalies shoulder...bar down!  Jarrett B. and Ian K. would end up with the helpers.  2-0 Lindsay!!!!
Sturgeon managed to score a late 1st period goal with just 25 seconds left after a small melee in front of our net and a lucky bounce off a leg.  2-1 Lindsay.
Our Muskies again dominated the play in the 2nd and 3rd periods but they could not seem to solve the Thunder goalie.  We hit the post 3 times in the 2nd..with the goalie completely out of position...we shot wide twice on breakaways...and we peppered the Sturgeon goalie with multiple shots that he managed somehow to hold onto and cover!.
Luck, some skill, more luck, and again...luck..kept this game close because the score certainly did not translate to how this game played out.
Lindsay spent about 99% of the time in the oppositions end and the score could have been much worse.
Our Muskies made some fantastic passes...they seemed to take a look before firing the puck up the ice and managed to connect and create great scoring chances.
Our forwards looked hungry and determined to erase the Curse of Pad 2 and controlling the puck was a perfect way to do it.  They were aggressive in the corners and took the puck at almost every opportunity they had.
Our defence was stingy and tough...anything that came into our zone, they gobbled up and moved it back out to the forwards.
Josh O. and Wes I. made great saves on the shots they encountered and ensured that the 2nd goal would not get past them!
The latter part of the 3rd period saw some renewed chippy play as the frustrations of the Sturgeon team began to show.
Sammy T. did not back down to any of the abuse they tried to give him and stood tall!!
The buzzer sounded and our Muskies were victorious 2-1!!!!!!
The Curse of Pad 2 is officially over and we can now play that side knowing we can win with dominance anytime we choose.
I realize this is not a long write up..but the score was 2-1 and the play was one sided..not much to write about :)
Congrats to the coaches and the kids on a dominant win.
I will say....I did my first gate duty ever.  I had a lot of fun and didnt realize how much team building between parents that occurs at the gate.  Thanks to all of those that kept me company!

No time to rest...we are back on the ice tomorrow against Manvers at Noon.

Go Muskies Go!!!!!!!!
