Smells Like Team Spirit: Atom Teal vs Atom White, Round 2
Despite the Muskies Atom Teal team dominating in a 7-4 win over the Atom White team in December, #TheJersey colour conundrum was still a hot topic when these two hometown rivals faced off in a highly anticipated rematch on Tuesday January 16th.

The last time that these 2 fierce teams met, Atom White was riding a high, fresh off of a tournament win & relishing in the pride of defeating one of the top teams in the league. The Teal team pulled them down from that cloud and broke their winning streak once and were aiming to do it again.

The 1st period was tough for the White team; Teal’s Ethan Semrau #14 scored the first goal of the game assisted by Connor Fraser #5 and Nolan Hildenbrandt #16. It was end-to-end action for 6 straight minutes until Olivia Berthelot #10 sunk another one, with help from Isabella Stuckey #2 and Connor Swann #17. Then, in a heartbeat, there was a flash of red, and Keira Watson #11 put one on the board for her Muskies Atom White team, assisted by Jaxson Leith #5 and Tristan Shiers #10. Things became worrisome though when a hooking call against White’s enforcer Nathan Wooldridge #15 near the end of the 1st put him in the box, but his teammates successfully killed the penalty and prevented Teal from adding to their tally.

Into the 2nd, with Teal’s Issac Stuckey #6 seated comfortably in the sin bin on a tripping call, the Muskies Atom White team capitalized on a power play opportunity when Keira Watson #11 found a lane and tied the game with a dashing unassisted goal. White’s endurance in the 2nd paid off as Nathan Sanderson #29 scored 2 more, assisted by Drake Robinson-West #9 and defenseman Ethan Peterson #14. Securing a 3 goal lead over Teal, the White team buried one in the back of the net midway through the 2nd, and their trusty defensive lines held off the push back from their friendly foes until the horn blew.

Early in the 3rd, Teal sent out the big guns as Connor Swann #17 soared out onto the ice and sent the puck high over White’s goaltender Alexis Kostashuk #1 with an unassisted bottle knocker to narrow the score, 5-3. After a tough battle in the corner with Ross Kostashuk #2, Quinn Fraser #11 managed another goal for the Muskies Teal team, assisted by Lucas McIntyre #7. White felt the pressure mounting, but they held steadfast to their positional play as Madison Raymond #16 assisted Sean Hayman #17 on a fluid zig zagging play through his adversaries, delivering one more goal. In the final moments of the 3rd, Teal goaltender Keegan Dunn #29 skated off to the bench as they gained another attacker in an attempt to narrow the score. Shots at the empty net narrowly missed each time as the excitement of an impending win was building for the White team. As the clock wound down, the Muskies Atom White held onto their winning streak this time, triumphing over rival Muskies Atom Teal with a 6-4 victory.

Congratulations goes to Jaxson Leith #5, our player of the game for his impressive speed, exceptional positional play, and being fast with falling back to cover the blue line when it was needed.
