Muskies Black @ Coyotes White: Season Opener
Fans from both sides of the pond packed the stands when our Lindsay Muskies Atom Black team travelled to Ops on Friday October 12th to open the 2018-2019 season against home area rivals, the Kawartha Coyotes White at 7pm. The Coyotes were hungry for a win in their first game, and a 5-5 tie left fans cheering for more!

Both teams were eager to get on the board early in the 1st period and it was Kawartha's achievement with a fast goal less than a minute and a half into the game. Muskies centre Drake Robinson-West #9 demonstrated his team's competitiveness mere seconds later when he bested the Coyotes goaltender with a rebound off a shot from teammate Graham Thompson #3. A spectacular backhanded spin-o-rama shot off the post from Isaac Stuckey #15 had fans cheering in the stands and gave the Muskies an early lead. Despite their opponent's home ice advantage, Lindsay dominated the play in the first period with another rebound goal from Devon Moynes #8 on the power play. Kawartha finally broke through Lindsay's defenses and starting goaltender Seth Knight #29 was sure that he had the breakaway shot, but the goal was already called, narrowing the score, 3-2. The Kawartha White team kept up the pressure in the Lindsay zone but with 4 seconds left on the clock, Jaxson Leith #5 buried one for the Muskies from the low slot with a corner shot, ending the 1st period 4-2.

The Coyotes persisted and came back stronger in the second period scoring a 3rd one for their team at just about the 6 minute mark. Lindsay's 5th and final goal of the game came out of focus and aim by Corbin Allison #4 off a hard clear out of our zone from defensemen Nathan Wooldridge #17. The Muskies struggled in the 2nd period, falling short on hinging back and allowed 2 more goals from the Kawartha White team on the breakaway, which tied the game once again with a Coyotes buzzer beater at the end of the period. The 3rd was tough for both teams; recent warm weather made for unfavourable ice conditions and players seemed to have difficulties staying on their feet. With neither team able to clinch the win in a 15 minute period that fell short of time at the 6 minute mark, it was still a competitive first game of the season with hard offensive play from both sides, ending with a point each, and a final tie score of 5-5.

Congratulations Isaac Stuckey #15 for receiving the 1st AtoMc Golden Jersey Player of the Game award! Your hard work for the team showed in every battle for the puck, and paid off with an impressive goal in our first game of the season!

Don't miss the action this Friday October 19th when the Lindsay Muskies Atom Black team host Sturgeon Lake Thunder in their home opener at the LRC! Puck drops at 6:15pm!
