Back in Black: Muskies @ Mariposa Blue
The Lindsay Muskies were back in their black jerseys when they shut the doors in Oakwood against the Mariposa Lightning Blue team 2-0, during a Monday evening match-up on Nov.5th at 7:30pm.

The Muskies knew they were up against a strong team with a few wins already under their belt, so when the puck dropped they went straight into defensive mode as the play existed predominantly in their own zone. It was rush hour in front of Lindsay’s starting goaltender Seth Knight #29 as Mariposa tried desperately to chip in that first goal of the game. With a lot of back pressure from the Muskies forwards and a solid effort from defenceman Andrew Shows #7 who kept his focus on clearing the puck, Mariposa was unable to get that goal.

A scoreless first period only built up the tension in the 2nd and Muskies forward Jaxson Leith #5 surprised the Bolts goalie with a shot that was just beyond the reach of his blocker. Mariposa pushed back into the Lindsay zone but Isabella Stuckey #12, already keen to Mariposa Blue's methods, sacrificed herself in front of a shot, single-handedly saving a goal. With the pressure mounting, and a tripping call made against the Lightning Atom Blue team, the Muskies managed a second goal on the power play as our offence saw an opportunity and made the pass to Devon Moynes #8 who sunk the puck deep in the net with a fast and accurate shot past the Mariposa defender. The 2nd period ended, 2-0 Muskies.

Into the 3rd, the Muskies gained speed and had endurance to stay in the play, controlling the gap, and pushing back an unrelenting Mariposa Blue team. Determined to hold onto their lead, Muskies net minder Seth Knight #29 stood on his head to keep the puck out of the net as defenseman Chase Boutin #6 was consistent with clearing the zone with hard long shots up the boards. Corbin Allison #4 then picked up the puck on the breakaway with a great chance against the Bolts, but the shot narrowly missed the net. Muskies Maxx Cavanagh #10 with a rebound opportunity from a bounce off the backboards but the defence was Lightning fast and they quickly shut him down. Time ticked away as Lindsay defended their end, and their goalie, shorthanded after defenseman Nathan Wooldridge #17 went sat out on a hooking call, but the game still ended scoreless for the strong Mariposa Lightning Blue team, 2-0.

Congratulations Seth Knight #29 on receiving the AtoMc Golden Moments Player of the Game award! With impressively progressing skills between the pipes, your efforts tonight earned your team the win and your first shutout of the season!
