The Cup is coming! Yes the real one
Hockey Days in the Kawarthas is a two part event-the first produced by the new KMAG
(Kawartha Museum and Art Gallery- the former Olde Gaol Museum and Kawartha Art Gallery together)
These two special days which will involve the entire community from schools to minor hockey league teams to hockey fans, service clubs and the City of Kawartha Lakes.
Sunday January 21 will see the Stanley Cup ( the real one, not the replica) visit the Armoury between noon and 4. People can get right up close and read the names on the Cup, and teams in team sweaters as well as individuals can have their pictures taken with the Cup-the Holy Grail of hockey in Canada.
Family Day Monday Feb 19. will see the Hockey Hall of Fame's Gold Medal Package set up for people to see and participate with- four major trophies (again the originals, likely the Vezina, Hart, Art Ross and Calder or Conn Smythe), all the Hall's collections. KMAG will have its own exhibits to tell the story of hockey in the area through art and artifacts.
Both days will be held in association with the Hockey Hall of Fame, and Leaf great Ron Ellis - whose name is on the Cup as one of the last members of the Leaf Cup winning team in 1967 - will be on hand at least one and maybe both days. Admission to both days is free - donations help the museum and gallery programs.
