Pre-Hockey “FUTURE MUSKIES” Hockey Program

The purpose of the Pre-Hockey program is to ensure that both Players and Parents receive the right start in their hockey experience. The program provides instruction on the most basic skating and hockey skills to make sure that the Players have the solid foundation needed to be safe, improve skills, gain confidence and above all have fun to grow the love for the game. The OMHA mandates that Pre-hockey age Players must remain in the program until they are five years old. Currently there is no option to move up to the next age division until they turn five.

We encourage Parents/Guardians to participate on ice with their Players. These are very young Players who may experience some separation concerns when they venture out on the large ice surface for the first time.

Parent on ice participants will be called “On-Ice-Volunteers” and will be registered with the OMHA by LMHA.

The OMHA requires that all Parents with Players registered with Hockey Canada must complete the Respect In Sport – Parent Program as soon as possible after registering your Player. This will allow the Player to be “Rostered” to the Pre-Hockey Program as a tracking device for the OMHA. Go to www.omha.net for more information.

Cost:

$450.00 per Player for the season.

The program will run from approximately the end of September 2018 through to March Break 2019.

Schedule;

There will be two – one hour sessions a week. One session will be on the weekend and the other will be during the week. LMHA ice schedulers are currently preparing the new season schedule as a result actual days and times are TBD.

One session will be skating instruction (no sticks or pucks) with a skating instructor.

The other session will be a program to teach basic hockey skills – passing, stick handling, shooting, etc.

Due to the large number of other user groups at the Lindsay RecPlex, Parents are encouraged to continue to look for schedule changes on the LMHA website schedule.

Tim Hortons is our sponsor and they will be providing sweaters and socks for the players.

These will need to be worn at each session and will belong to the Players at the end of the season.

Equipment Players will need;

Hockey Skates, Shin Pads, Hockey Jock or Jill, Hockey pants, Hockey helmet with face protector, Hockey gloves, hockey elbow pads, Hockey shoulder pads, mouthguard and Hockey stick. It should be noted at this age most Players have determined which side will be their dominate stick side, as a result it is recommended to purchase a straight stick for their first on ice hockey experience.

Equipment Parents will need;

Hockey Skates, Hockey helmet, Hockey stick
