Muskies Take Commanding Points Lead in QF Series
The Lindsay Bantam Muskies took a 5-1 points lead in the first to 6 All Ontario QF Series last night with a 6-3 win over Prince Edward County in Game 3.

The Muskies got off to another strong start taking a 1-0 lead 4 minutes into the game with a good forecheck by the line of Dawson Bruce, Zack Rhodes and Matt Cooke. Zack Rhodes scored the goal (with the lone assist going to Dawson Bruce) on semi wrap-around. PEC battled back hard in the late parts of the 1st and eventually tied the score at 1-1 on a defensive zone coverage mistake by the Muskies. The Muskies were able to keep the score tied at 1-1 as a result of some good penalty killing by Cody Defreitas, Dryden Brown, Hunter Reedman and Garrett Fierheller.

The Muskies re-took the lead 30 seconds into the 2nd as the line of Caileb Duffy , Cameron Robinson and Liam Shanks combined on a good transitional play with Duffy getting the goal and assists going to both Robinson and Shanks. At the 9 minute mark of the second Cameron Robinson was sent in on a breakaway on a nice pass from Curtis Appleton only to be pulled down while trying to finish his move. The Muskies were awarded a penalty shot and Caileb Duffy converted to give the muskies a 3-1 lead. The lead did not last long however as the Kings scored a PP goal less than 2 minutes later to cut the lead to 3-2 and then with 20 seconds remaining in the 2nd converted again on the result of some sloppy defensive zone coverage to send the game into the intermission all tied at 3-3.

The Kings came out very aggressive in the 3rd period and had the Muskies pinned in our end for much of the 1st half of the period. However, goalie Tanner King stood his ground and kept the game tied. The Muskies finally re-took the lead on a nice passing play with Zack Rhodes scoring the eventual game winner with assists going to Liam Shanks and Caileb Duffy. The Muskies were able to put the game away with 2 empty net goals from Cameron Robinson (assists to Riley MacIver and Jaryd Lapointe) and Zack Rhodes (assists to MacIver and Duffy) to win the game 6-3.

Shots on net were 33-24 in favour of Lindsay and 3 stars were Caileb Duffy with a 4 point night, Tanner King with several key saves and Zack Rhodes with the hat-trick. Special note to the line of Dryden Brown, Cody Defreitas and Drake McQuarrie who had a terrific game with a consistent forecheck and physical play while being able to create many scoring chances through good execution of break-out passes. The Muskies hope to wrap the series up next Saturday Feb 23rd in game 4 at home in Lindsay at 4:30 pm.
