Solid Effort
Game 1 of the 2nd half of the regular season saw Lindsay Teal take on CYO White in a close game.
Chances are, when you are told that the visiting team parents are out in the lobby prior to the game, talking about how their specific kids are planning on specifically targeting one of your players during the game, that things may not go just the way you would like them to.
Although Lindsay was short 2 players, and playing with 2 less than the Oshawa team, the game was held very close, going into the 3rd period with a 0 - 0 score. It was evident that the Lindsay player of the game was likely going to be their goaltender Greg C, playing in his first regular season game as the new full-time goaltender, taking over from the injured Dylan.
With of course a few questionable calls or non calls from the ref, the CYO team did what they set out to do, which was get under the skin of our player, causing him to take 3 penalties and get tossed from the game, to the standing ovation I might add to their rather classless parents. I understand that hockey is hockey and there are always going to be idiots out there in the stands, but to have a bunch of parents stand up and cheer when an opponents player gets thrown out - when he had really not done anything particularly physical to another player during the game - is absolutely low class. Now, I must say, I was impressed that the team's manager did apparently call the parents together for a brief chat after the game after learning about what had been heard prior to the game. Whether or not it makes a difference for the next time we play the CYO White team or not, remains to be seen. I can only hope that if they target our player again, like taking him out at the knees, that the ref does something about it - which is not likely I'm afraid simply because the next time we play them will be in Oshawa, and I have seen a lot of rougher hockey there than I have seen here in Lindsay.
All in all, our guys played a strong game and lost by a 2-0 score. Hopefully things will be better when we go to Oshawa (tonight) to play the other CYO team, the Blue team.
