Durham Knows the Enemy: Muskies White vs Crusaders Green
Things started out like a Green day in December on Saturday the 2nd, but just after the noonhour, the forecast called for a chance of snow and the landscape changed to White when the Lindsay Muskies Atom White team traveled south to meet the Durham Crusaders Green in their home arena.

The Crusaders opened the game, scoring the first goal barely a minute in. They had heard the rumors of the Muskies recent successes and were anxious to get on the board right away. Lindsay was slow to react though and spent too much time chasing Durham out of our end. After a sluggish start to the game, the Muskies came together and scored 2 goals in 2 minutes to end the period.

Durham fired out of the gates at the top of the 2nd period and tied the game with another early goal. One more shortly after that had Lindsay's defence shaking their heads; they knew that they had to up the ante at this point. A brief mental regroup after an offside whistle was all it took. Lindsay broke through and sunk one at the midway point, tying the game once again. Frustrated, the Green team fought back hard and ended up shorthanded. Those power play opportunities were just what the White team was looking for, and our forwards fell back as defenceman Ethan Peterson #14 found a lane and scored the go ahead goal for the Muskies. The "Ethan line" didn't disappoint either, when Ethan Thompson #6, who stepped into a defensive role for this game, executed a beautiful cross-ice pass allowing Devon Moynes #8 to score another for the team with 25 seconds to go in the 2nd period! Then a buzzer beater from Nathan Sanderson #29 with .01 seconds left on the clock gave the Muskies a 3 goal lead heading into the 3rd period.

The Durham team wasn't backing down so easily and managed a 4th goal in a predictable fashion quickly into the 3rd. Muskies forward Dexter Eeuwes #4 stood out to fans with his fast skating and attempts on the Green net, but the Crusaders weren't allowing any more goals and formed a shield wall infront of their goaltender. Every one of their attempts to clear the puck had the Muskies at the boards in the neutral zone as we consistently tried to turn it over and get into a scoring position. Jaxson Leith #5 picked up one of these attempts and aggressively broke out along the edge, but found himself in the box until the last 2 minutes of the game with an unexpected penalty. The Crusaders held their ground through the final minutes of the game and kept the Muskies 6-4 win a narrow one.

Player of the game was awarded to Muskies forward Ethan Thompson #6 for stepping out on to that blue line and functioning as a valuable compliment to our defensive core for this game! Congratulations Ethan!

The Lindsay Muskies Atom White team finishes their 2 week tour on the road tonight in Little Britain when they face off against Mariposa for the second time this season at 7:30pm!
