The Lindsay Tyke Black Muskies have had a terrific first half of the season. Here is a brief summary of the last few months...
In November, the team had a record of 2 wins and 6 losses. We played well, but were up against some tough opponents like the Kawartha Coyotes and Mariposa Lightning. We also had a team pizza party at Coach Sean's house, and a Tag Day that raised over $1200 towards our tournaments and other costs.
We started off December with a fun practice with the Jr. A Muskies. The "big Muskies" showed our team some drills and were kind enough to sign many autographs for our players. It was a memorable experience for all of the kids!
The excitement from that practice carried over to the following weekend, when we participated in the Woodville Tyke Tournament. The kids played excellent hockey to defeat Manvers and Aylmer in our first two games. Our 2-0 record put us in first place in our pool, and earned us a spot in the "A" final. We held our own against the select team from Haliburton for a while in the final, but ended up losing the championship game to come in second place.
With the players' spirits and confidence on a high from the tournament, we started to gain a little momentum in the month of December. We started the month by losing two close games to Millbrook, but ran off three straight wins heading into the Christmas break to push our record for the month to a respectable 5 wins and 3 losses. In addition to the fun on the ice, the team also had a great time shopping and wrapping our gifts for the family of 7 that we helped out at Christmas time through the Boys and Girls Club. We capped off a great day of hockey and community involvement with a team party at Boston Pizza. Special thanks to Jack's grandparents for providing the food, and the team staff and Santa for the excellent presents for the players.
Now we are heading into 2015 on a real roll! We are on a five game winning streak, and all of our players are contributing on the ice. Branndon is our leading goalscorer with 19, followed by Tyler with 9 goals and Caitlyn with 6 goals. Nathan is our top set-up man with 7 assists, followed closely by Sean with 6 assists. Nate, Noah, Jack, Jill, and Quinn have also chipped in with goals and assists as part of our balanced offensive attack. On defence, Alex, Max, and Calenn have been very dependable in our end, and have also jumped into the rush to help out our forwards. In net, Keegan has been very solid with 7 wins and a couple of shutouts.
Thanks to our fantastic coaches (Sean, Jason, Jon, and Rob) and our wonderful manager (Shannon) for all of their hard work so far this year. It has been a great experience for all of the players, and we are looking forward to the rest of the season!
