Back-to-Back Shutouts to Win the Series
After falling behind 2-1 in the series to Manvers, we dominated them in back-to-back shutout wins on Friday and Saturday to take the best of five series 3-2.
On Friday night, we hosted the Mustangs in a must-win contest. Owen V. played a very strong game in net to keep it scoreless into the third period, and then our offence took over. Seth opened the scoring with two goals in the first 40 seconds of the third period, and Griffin picked up an assist on the second goal. The roles were reversed as Griffin scored our third with a helper from Seth. Sam finished things off with our fourth goal of the period thanks to an assist from Maguire. It was a very strong all-around game by our team. Our defence smothered the Manvers players in our own zone, and our forwards went hard to the net all night. The series was tied 2-2 and heading to a deciding fifth game.
On Saturday morning, we continued our excellent play from the previous night with one of our best all-around games of the year. Our defence limited their chances, and Owen V. stopped everything that came his way in net to pick up his second consecutive shutout. Up front, the forwards continued to crash the crease and put pucks in the net. Seth led the way with two goals. Josh G., Sam, and Cowyn also scored. Owen D., Cowyn, Jarrett, Griffin, and Maguire picked up assists. We won the game 5-0 to wrap up the series.
We are now waiting to see who we will play in the next round. Hopefully we can keep up the momentum from our last two games.
