Big Win in Series Opener in Bobcaygeon
We began our final playoff series in Bobcaygeon last night with a solid 7-2 win over the Sturgeon Grey team.

It was a quiet first period.  Both teams had a few chances, but could not put the puck in the net.  Our defence played well.  Aidan, Caleb, and Connor did a great job of picking up loose pucks and sending them back out of our zone.  Owen V. made a few clutch saves to keep the game scoreless at the first intermission.

In the second period, the pucks finally started flying into the net.  Seth scored an unassisted goal in the first minute, and Sam followed up with a goal on his first shift, with assists from Cowyn and Josh G.  As the game opened up, the Thunder had a few breakaway chances, but Owen shut the door to preserve our lead.  Our penalty killing was tested mid-way through the period, but we managed to extend our lead when Jarrett and Seth skated through their defence to score a shorthanded goal.  Jarrett added another a few minutes later to put us up by four, but they managed to put one past Owen to end his shutout streak.  He had not allowed a goal in over two and a half games!  We were ahead 4-1 at the second intermission.

The Sturgeon team scored another goal at the start of the third period to cut the lead to two, but we held on and picked up a few insurance goals to put the game away.  Sean sent Seth in alone to score his hat-trick, and Griffin banged in a rebound with an assist from Quinn.  Cowyn scored the final goal with an assist from Seth to seal the 7-2 victory.

We have a few days off before potentially playing four games in five days to wrap up the series.  Game 2 will be in Fenelon Falls on Thursday night.
